The Kite Runner

Khaled Hosseini

I really loved this book and I strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoys books about culture. This book's main character is arabic, so he talks a lot about his culture in Afghanistan. The author gives a lot of historic examples about the country before, during, and after war. I like how in the book, the main character deals with a lot of issues people all over the world face. Serious issues such as deppreseeion , sexual violence , adoptions and immigration are mentioned through various characters in the book and is very educartional. The book starts off with the main characters as a child in his home country, Kabul. He longs for his fathers admiration and attention, for his dad is a very respected man in his country. The beginning of the book is about the main character's childhood. He is always with his best friend Hassan. While Hassan is technically his servant in his house, they are inseparable. Hassan shows 100% loyalty to where he endangers himself. He betrays Hassan and Hassan moves away. Years later war is declared in Afghanistan so he and his dad flee to America with visas. Both leave everything behind to start safe lives in America. When his father dies , he marries and becomes an author. It wasn't until he became 38 years old to revisit his home country to visit an old friend. To make up for betraying his friend all those years ago, he spots his orphan child. He comes to forgive himself for all his regrets and mistakes.
