Looking for Alaska

John Green

John Green is a very good author for several of his books. This one is written in a 16 year old boy’s perspective. He is inspired by a quote and decides his normal life is uneventful, so he decides to leave home and go in search of a boarding school for something new. He goes to a boarding school, meets VERY interesting people, and falls for someone. This book is extremely funny with adventures. It brings up issues teenagers face, taking risks, stressing over school, mental health, etc….The characters are very unique. Many interesting quotes and talks in depth of the theory of the afterlife. There are a lot of intense events. Funny and sad altogether. Mind changing.

The character Alaska is a very dark, mysterious person who makes questionable decisions, impulsive really. My very old self relates to Alaska. I used to be very impulsive and didn’t know how to handle my emotions. And a huge risk taker. I love how we both love to read, take risks and cause trouble. The way John Green describes Alaska is so amazing.

I recommend this book to any teenager, especially in detention because it’s really different. Hulu even made a show based on it. It’s really funny. It makes you think, about the characters, real world problems people face. A big example on how actions can cause really bad effects. This book was mind changing. It gets you to think deeply about the past, present and future.
